The story pits "Indy"gestion Joe against her nemesis F.F. Greasy and her assistant Sugah in an effort to solve the mystery of the scrambled and ancient Pyramid of Food...and teach kids to stay fit, healthy and make the right food choices along the way. Adventure! Excitement! Songs! Laughs! And learning about good eats! This show has it all!

With the help of educators, Southland Opera is dedicated to reaching children and youth by presenting production on school campuses that are fresh, exciting, accessible and consistent with the standards of performing excellence.

Southland Opera worked with two gifted artists on Indy Joe and the Pyramid of Food:

Phil Lollar, Writer

Mr. Lollar has been involved in the creation, writing and production of dozens of kids’ audio/video series, including: Adventures in Odyssey; Jungle Jam and Friends; Little Dogs on the Prairie; Marvy and the RazzleFlabbinz; 3, 2, 1 Penguins; Threads; Paws & Tails; The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss and Elmo Aardvark: Outer Space Detective. Two of those series have been credited with re-inventing the art of radio drama: the hit comedy Jungle Jam and Friends and Focus on the Family’s dramatic series Adventures in Odyssey (winner of the Golden Mike Award). Mr. Lollar co-created the Odyssey series and wrote and directed more than 250 episodes for the show.

As for video, Mr. Lollar is a co-creator and performer in Little Dogs on the Prairie (winner of the Film Advisory Board’s Award of Excellence), was a writer and consultant for the Nickelodeon/Jim Henson television series The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss (twice nominated for the prestigious Emmy Award for Outstanding Children’s Series), and wrote, performed and co-produced Elmo Aardvark: Outer Space Detective, the Internet’s first weekly animated series (winner of the Annie Award for Best New Technology Animated Series).

Eli Villanueva, Composer

Eli Villanueva began his professional career at age 11 and has since earned outstanding credentials as a performer, a stage director and a published composer. Mr. Villanueva’s compositions are praised for their appeal to audiences and performers alike. Music ranging from solo vocal to choral works to popular Handbell songs, can be found through publishing companies like Fred Bock Music and Laurendale Associates.

Mr. Villanueva has appeared internationally in leading baritone roles including Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Marcello and Schaunard in La Bohème, and Falke in Die Fledermaus with such noted companies as the San Francisco Opera Center, Los Angeles Opera, and for the Cultural Arts Festival in Cortona, Italy.

Presently, Mr. Villanueva is stage director for Los Angeles Opera’s acclaimed In-School Opera Outreach. As Resident Stage Director for OperaWorks, a nationally recognized opera training program, he teaches stage techniques and co-creates new works.
